John Thornhill’s Masterclass…2010!

John Thornhill is about to open the doors on his 2010 Marketing Masterclass-fantastic!

As an ex-student of John’s, it set me thinking and its funny what comes to mind. It must have been about week three when I found myself writing a blog about having to write a blog!

Blog writing was a new thing for me (as anybody who has read my early efforts might agree), but I found it surprisingly therapeutic. I discovered the trick was to make it interesting, fresh and new enough to captivate the reader, and of course a search engine or three.

Having watched the videos, John felt like an old mate now and that was just as well because there was a long way to go. But you know what, looking back, I really enjoyed it. Everything was easy to follow and the downloads were really helpful, particularly the videos. I still remember wrestling with the best way to set up the categories and trying to think of interesting stuff to drive through them, hmm!

One of the really useful things to do, as suggested by John, was to check out other marketers blogs. It provides valuable contextual material both in terms of where you are now and where you might be able to take things in the future.

Oh yeah, and of course earn some real cash along the way!!

There’s a new Masterclass starting in a couple of weeks….WATCH THIS SPACE!

Ebay & dropshipping.

Do you use drop shippers for your EBay business?

If not here’s how drop shipping and eBay can work together to display and then deliver products to your customers.

Having first identified products which either (a) sell in a large quantity on eBay or (b) are rare and/or exclusive (where your margins could greater), the next step is to find a good reliable drop shipper who carries them as stock and can ship them to your customers preferably as single item orders with no minimum order value.

The next step is to download their product catalogue and photos. If expressly permitted, you should differentiate your stall by slightly altering the products descriptions (without of course touching any technical specifications) and rotate the photos (so that your products stand out from similar products which might also be posted on eBay).

You will also have to check out the prices offered by your drop shipper and compare them with retail prices elsewhere to make sure there is sufficient margin. If you have done your homework, after posting the products on eBay, your orders will hopefully start to arrive. After collecting the payment through PayPal or any other means, you can now forward that order to your drop shipper and pay him his price. The difference between what your customer pays and the amount you pay your drop shipper is your profit margin, less of course any listing charges due to eBay.

Your EBay store provides a front end to showcase your products and the drop shipper a back office which takes care of the rest, but as an inadequate back office can enhance or destroy your reputation take care to choose wisely!

Ebay stores

Opening your own eBay store is the fastest and easiest way to get your at-home eBay business off the ground. You can enjoy the financial freedom of running your own business and in time with hard work you could surpass the income you would have made otherwise.

Start up costs are minimal; a computer with internet access is all you need. If you do not yet have an account with eBay, sign up on eBay.com to get started. While eBay does collect fees for opening and running a store, the fee is relatively small and depending on which route you choose, may not be due immediately.

Setting up a PayPal account is free. When your business takes off, you will need to lift the monthly account limit and you can upgrade also for free. The only difference between a regular account and a merchant account is that you can accept credit cards through a merchant account effortlessly, but your payments will be subjected to a small fee percentage.

When your store is ready to go, start by adding items from around the house that you no longer have a need for. As your store and your business grows, using the half rule – that is, saving half of your profits to purchase more inventory – is a great way to continue to ensure the success of your eBay business.

The best thing about eBay is that they handle most of the work for you:-the marketing, the selling, and the customer service. All you need to do is collect your money, pack up the item, and ship it off to the buyer.

Marketing with Alex J

Well, having finished “Marketing with Alex”, I can now reflect on the whole process.

I originally signed up because somebody I trusted recommended him very highly and that was that! Trust is at the heart of everything that is good about the internet, and Alex certainly seems to be the real deal.

All live calls (there is a minimum of one per week) were over-delivered in such a way as to make them well worth while. In addition, the starting point was “Forward to Basics” which was certainly worth the effort as it opened my eyes as to how I have some way to go in relation to goal setting.

It’s refreshing when something actually does what its says it will do “on the tin” so to speak and “Marketing With Alex” managed to exceed my expectations.

I know there have been a TON of “gurus” throwing advice around about the FTC regulations. But this is the first interview I’ve heard with a “higher up” at the FTC itself. I’m listening to it as I write this

It is really good. If you are involved in ANY sort of online marketing, I highly suggest you listen:

Hey….I need help!

I’d really be grateful for your help here.

Regular visitors will notice that I’ve lightened the overall look of the blog and I’d really be thankful for your comments.

Lastly, would you mind letting me know what is/has been your number one frustration while trying to make any money online. If on the other hand, the pursuit of the “green stuff” is/has not been your objective and you have all together more altruistic motives, I lay a wager you?ve still suffered from the onslaught of information overload for example?

Come on, let it all out-you know you need to :) !
